In the poem “complete destruction” by William
Carlos William, relates to the way we take things in life for granted. It also
demonstrates how time is essential and everyone will eventually meet with death. The icy
day, is considered an extremely cold day not necessarily meaning snow but overall considered a sad and bad day. Icy days are dangerous to walk outside. "It was an icy day. We buried the cat, then took her box and
set fire to it in the back yard. Those fleas that escaped earth and fire died
by the cold” .As
I read the poem I get a sense of karma that is being perpetrated “What goes
around comes around”. Since fleas are harmful to cats we can assume the fleas are the
reason the cat got sick which caused its death. Though the person in the poet
appears caring enough to bury his cat in the backyard and preform a ritual, he
is also unforgiving to the fleas. As if he wanted them to be punished. The poem
is also trying to let the readers understand that everything should be accountable
for no matter how small of a matter. The fleas are extremely tiny and are not
important to us humans. But in fact it was that tiny matter that caused his
home to lose a loved house pet. just like the poem is trying to say we should be more careful in our everyday life and no over look small matters.
